Welcome to Ward Greenhouses. For 30 years, I have specialized in working with old greenhouses. In
1975, I salvaged a large greenhouse that had been built in the 1940s and
was slated for demolition. I used the parts of that greenhouse to make
ten smaller ones. Since then, I have become involved with all aspects
of old greenhouses, salvaging, relocating, restoring, renovating and remanufacturing,
and have accumulated an inventory of 100 tons of single-glazed glass greenhouses
and greenhouse parts that date from 1900 to the 1950s. In addition to creating new greenhouses using old materials, I have worked on the restoration or renovation of greenhouses at homes through the Eastern United States and at historic locations in Massachusetts, including the Hunnewell Estate in Wellesley; the Lyman Estate in Waltham; Edith Wharton's home, The Mount, in Lenox; and the Lyman Plant House at Smith College in Northampton. I provide a wide range of services for greenhouse restorations and new projects including consultation, design, construction and construction supervision. My interest is in helping people determine what they want and how best to get it. While I specialize in old greenhouses, I recognize that they are not the right solution for everyone. In some cases, I may end up steering a client to a suitable manufacturer of modern greenhouses. However, if you want a vintage greenhouse, there are many possibilities. In all cases, I can help you figure out what you want, provide a practical education about the options and help you restore or build a greenhouse that works for you. My projects have been
featured in Horticulture, The New York Times, The Boston Globe, This
Old House and Old House Journal.
